Pistil of the flower it is an important part of it, essential for each plant to reproduce. It is often of small size Compared to the flower in its entirety, the petals predominate in most cases, both in terms of size and color.

Pistil of the flower: what it is

It can also be called gynoecium, the name is rather ancient and derives from the Latin "pistillum" which indicates the hand of the mortar. In the flower it is the female part and it is located in the flowers of angiosperm plants. As we are about to see, it can be formed by one or more carpels welded together but there are also flowers that have independent pistils.

Pistil of the flower: parts

THE pistils of a flower are composed of carpels, ovules are produced above them which contain female gametes. From flower to flower, actually from plant to plant or in categories of plants, we find pistils formed by one or more carpels joined together or that remain independent. In each we can distinguish different parts.

What then becomes fruit is the ovary, is the lower part, inside it contains one or more cavities called "loculi" which in turn guard the ova. They stay there before they are fertilized and then turn into seeds. The styles they are at the top of the ovary and are a sort of "cane", i pollen grains they are deposited right inside them, held back by the secretion of the stigmatic liquid.

The stigma is placed on top of each stylus, it is a cavity that serves to accommodate the pollen that will fertilize the eggs. In some plants the pistils have no style and even less the stigma, but this does not compromise them reproduction that occurs directly when the pollen is placed directly above the ovary.

Pumpkin flower pistil

The pistil of the flower must be observed to distinguish its sex, which is important because they are males to be destined for the pan while the females are better off surviving because they give birth to the fruit.

The female squash flower has a small and rounded pistil, at the moment of reproduction it gets bigger and bigger until the end of the petal remains of the flower. The male squash flower behaves differently, showing a long and thin pistil, contains the pollen that is needed for fertilization. Even if they are perfect for many succulent recipes it is important that someone is pardoned to ensure the reproduction of the species and then the cultivation of the pumpkin itself

Flower pistil: function

The pistil of the flower serves for its reproduction, In botany it is exactly lFemale reproductive system and in most cases it is in the center of the Angiosperm flower.
